Ultra-Hydrating Green Smoothie
My diet and lifestyle is full of constant experimentation.
I'm always tweaking and adapting based on how my body feels and what it seems to be craving. For well over a year now I have been very focused on clean eating -- filling my body with as many wholesome, real foods as possible. With that said, I still enjoy ice cream, pizza, DJ's buffalo chicken sandwiches & fries (my Cape peeps, you know what's up!), wine, etc. but I consume those things in moderation. My body just reacts better and has more energy when I do.
Lately, after being a bit more lax than usual, my body has sent me a bunch of red flags, causing me to stop and re-evaluate what I am using to fuel it. I'm once again resetting and become much more aware of the effects gluten, dairy and sugar have on my physical and mental wellbeing. Yes mental too...food can certainly trigger and impact both anxiety and stress, I've delt with it firsthand.
So with this mini-reset I've done a lot of reading and learning. I've been exploring more adaptogens and have stumbled upon a few bloggers who I find a lot of inspiration from, one being Blair from balance with b. Her story is pretty amazing, read it here. Not only is she an East Coast, New Englander like me, but she splits her time in Boston and Newport, so I recognize so many of the places she frequents for fresh, local, good food. I quickly became obsessed with all of the magical digestion-friendly plant based smoothies she posts, which got me curious about what Blair uses for protein. The answer -- Philosophie.
So naturally I ordered me some of that ish.
To say that I am LOVING their superfood protein blends is as understatement. I purchased both the Cacao Magic and Green Dream, and have literally made a smoothie with them every day since my package arrived. The Green Dream in particular features spirulina, which is an antioxidant-rich, blue-green algae that is packed with nutrients including iron, magnesium, manganese, zinc, copper, selenium, chromium, vitamin B-12, and protein. Not to mention the blend also boasts organic maca, hemp powder, chia and more.
I feel healthy AF as soon as I take my first sip.
So enough of my back story already, right. {#sorrynotsorry} On to this most amazing smoothie I whipped up with the Philosophie Green Dream! Trust me on this one guys, it's a keeper.
Ultra-Hydrating Green Dream Smoothie:
1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
1 tbsp Philosophie Green Dream plant based protein powder
1 large handful spinach
1/2 tbs organic ground flaxseed
1 1/2 cups frozen cantaloupe chunks {I literally just froze leftover melon I had cut up!}
1/3 of a fresh banana
Dash of cinnamon
Start by blending your almond milk, Green Dream, spinach and ground flaxseed until well incorporated. Next add in your frozen cantaloupe, banana and cinnamon. That's it!
Super fresh, hydrating and such a fun way to refresh this summer.
