Vibrant Hormone Balancing Smoothie

Let's talk hormones, shall we?

Pretty sure I’m not the only one who can use a little help now and then, whether it’s from stress or just my typical monthly routine mood swings. Not to mention that I suffer from high-functioning axiety, which I've noticed has intensified over the last 9 or so months.

Headspace sums it up best: "While a person with high-functioning anxiety can appear as though in control and actively engaged in the daily tasks of life, underneath this confident exterior, it is a fight to make it through the day."

I wouldn't go as far as saying that I fight to make it through each day, but there is a deep and dark inner monologue that I have to wrangle. Sometimes it's just the racing thoughts, in the form of to-do list of sorts -- I'm talking things for my wedding that is 7+ months away, what I'm going to wear to by friend's baby shower this weekend, what I need at the grocery store two weeks from now, if I sounded stupid in that meeting three days ago, why my friend hasn't texted me back yet, etc. Sometimes it's logical, most of the time it's not.

My anxiety also comes out in the form of perfectionism. I NEED TO CONTROL EVERYTHING. Hey, at least I admit it right? Because if I'm not in control, it won't be done right/well enough/to my standards/perfect, blah blah blah. Nonsense I know. I am very Type A, career and goal driven yet tend to slack on tacking care of me, myself and I. So, I’ve been reading  up a lot on adaptogens and diet choices I can make to help stabilize my hormones, reduce stress, ease my anxious mind and reduce inflammation.

Some of my personal faves include maca, ashwagandha, turmeric, cinnamon, cacao {cuz who doesn’t love the healing power of chocolate!}, healthy fats {think coconut oil, avocado, nuts/seeds}, antioxidant rich fruits + veggies, and honestly so much more. 

So all that chit chat above has led me to this beautifully vibrant, full of life and joy smoothie! I have dubbed this my HORMONE BALANCER because it's loaded with good stuff.

Blackberry Maca Hormone Balancer:

  • 2 scoops Trader Joe's Vanilla Vegan Pea Protein

  • 10 oz Pacific Foods Unsweetened Cashew Milk

  • 1/2 frozen banana

  • 1/4 avocado

  • 1 heaping cup fresh blackberries

  • 1/2 tbsp organic ground flaxseed

  • 1 tsp maca powder

  • extra cinnamon

Place all ingredients in a blender and blend on high until smooth and creamy. Add more or less liquid until you reach your desired consistency...I like my smoothies thick, so I tend to opt for 1 cup to 10-ish ounces. 

Top with some more antioxidants like frozen blueberries + pomegranate seeds and roasted cacao nibs.
