Guilt-Free Chocolate Proats
Who doesn't love chocolate...especially when you can have it for BREAKFAST.
Yup, you heard right. Chocolate + breakfast = best way to start your day.
Of course you need a little protein too, so I'm sharing my favorite way to get all of the above in during your first and most important meal of the day.
It's no secret that oatmeal makes a frequent appearance in my weekly breakfast routine. But sometimes plain old oats don't just don't cut it. I need a lil' something-something to jazz them up.
Enter, Bob's Red Mill Chocolate Protein Powder Nutritional Booster. I stumbled across this gem at my local supermarket, who happens to be vastly improving and expanding their natural foods aisle, and figured I'd give it a try. Right off the bat, I loved that it was a vegan option {I do eat meat, but like to incorporate plant based options often!} and it also contains probiotics. Just so happens to be a good source of omega-3, iron and fiber - total win!
Added about 1/2 a scoop to my morning oats and YUM! A delicious, nutrient dense brekkie.
Heavenly Chocolate Protein Oats
1/3 cup oats {I prefer the Trader Joe's Gluten Free Rolled Oats}
3 tbsp cage-free, liquid egg whites
1/2 scoop Bob's Red Mill Chocolate Protein Powder Nutritional Booster
Toppings of your choice! {I opted for sliced banana and raspberries}
Of course you can cook your oats stovetop, but if you're in a hurry like I am most days, or packing your breakfast to heat at work, a microwave works just fine.
Mix your oats and desired amount of water in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave on high for 1 1/2 - 2 minutes. Stop, stir in egg whites and microwave again in TWO 45-second increments. You should see the egg whites begin to fluff up and add volume as they cook, so stopping to pause and stir is important so that they mix well.
Once cooked through, add a bit more water or almond milk to your hot oats until you get your desired consistency; then mix in your protein powder. I like my oats super creamy, and the protein powder will absorb, so I slowly stir in a bit of liquid until they are just right.
BOOM, ya done. Top to your heart's content and enjoy your gult-free chocolate breakfast.
